Lunch at Montien Hotel

For the November luncheon, the ladies were in for a real treat at the Montien Hotel.  All sixty-four of them enjoyed the sumptuous buffet provided by the hotel, and as Pattaya had just enjoyed the festival of Loy Krathong the previous evening, the staff, along with Alvi Sinthuvanik, demonstrated some Thai customs.  Alvi explained the significance of the “Wai” when greeting, and how it is customary for younger people to greet first before elders.  This was followed by the staff performing some traditional Thai dance.  The ladies were then invited to join in, and they formed a small procession around the ballroom.

Gillian Thom made the usual announcements about various activities within the club.

◊Welfare – The Food Drops will now be on a Friday which means that the next Food Drop will be on Friday, December 4, meeting at Foodland at 10:00 am.

◊Trips and Travel – There are two interesting trips coming up.  One is to the second of annual sales by Jim Thompson at BITEC Exhibition Center where you can enjoy discounts on the entire stock.  Date is Friday, December 11, and cost is 450 baht per person, based on 10 people travelling.

The second trip is to India starting out on February 1, stopping in Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur.  The cost for 5 days/4 nights is 35,000 THB per person based on twin share for return economy class airfare and including airport-hotel transfers.  For reservations and further details about both these trips please contact Anja Schoof or Monique van Deursen.

◊There is a Thai Craft Fair with Family Fun Day on Sunday, November 29, at the International School of Eastern Seaboard, based at Burapha Golf Course, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Sadly, the Club said farewell to long time member Shelagh Cleaver as she leaves to join her husband in Botswana.  We wish them both all the best.  Then it was hello and welcome to new member Ananya Welland who is Thai.  The club also sang Happy Birthday to Joyce Aldridge, who conducts the raffle at every luncheon and is a very active member of PILC.

It is that time of year again when the nominations committee, Angela Poustie and Kirsten Lillelund, come together to look for volunteers to serve on the future committee.  If you would like to offer your time, please contact either Angela, Kirsten, or any of the present committee for more details, and remember, each committee member has a co-chair, so you will not be on your own.  The PILC needs you!
